Comair’s link to St Helena will boost South African Tourism.

The Air service operated by Comair to St Helena when the new airport opens will boost the South African tourism market, according to an article written on a South African news website yesterday “Comair Chief Executive Officer Erik Venter said while it is an unusual route, it will be beneficial to South Africa. There was no mention of the possible extended air service to Ascension Island and the benefits this would offer the tourist market.

Tourism minister Derek Hanekom also mentions that the expansion of the route will also allow competition between other airlines that offers services to South Africa. The article also mentions that the Boeing 737-800 is worth $47 million and is the second longest in its range, which is known for its fuel efficiency and a capacity of 160 passengers.  Comair welcomed their first Boeing 737 -800 to their fleet back in 2009.
